Adelson Rants Anti Online Gambling at G2E

The new way of gambling over the internet has some very wealthy individuals up in arms. Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson is probably the most outspoken protester who is putting a massive amount of effort and money into killing the very idea of online gambling within the USA.

Adelson is the CEO and chairman of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. repeated his distain at the G2E Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas, reiterating there was no reason access to casinos should be in the pockets of American’s public. "You cannot know your customer on the Internet," Adelson said.

Adelson is a significant fundraiser for the Republican party and has caused significant trouble for those Republicans who don’t care for his point view on the banning of online gambling in the States. Despite being worth nearly $3 billion more than the year before Adelson’s fortune of $31.4 billion according to Forbes places the gambling man at number 12 on the Forbes list of the richest people in America.

It has been suggested that Sheldon Adelson has personal issues that are driving his quest to prohibit internet betting that he considers a real threat to the youthful demographic  and vulnerable in his country. He said he didn't want  families to suffer the "scourges" of gambling like his family did. He said his father was a gambler which is an indication that life for Sheldon wasn’t happy.

The hypocritical stance Adelson has taken has been criticised as a fear he has that online gambling could pose a competitive threat to his brick and mortar casino empire. Republicans said in their platform statement prior to the last presidential election that the party was opposed to legalizing online gambling on a federal level.

The 2014 Global Gaming Expo held at the Las Vegas Sands was going well until Adelson began to display his distaste for internet betting. It may be obvious but some of the things Adelson has said about online gambling revealed his lack of knowledge regarding today’s technology.
