Spanish gaming operator Codere has had a difficult time competing in the online gambling market in Europe. CODERE is a leading Spanish multinational company in the private gaming sector, operating in eight countries in Europe and America. The firm began operations in 1980 and has since encountered numerous adverse situations when the company has attempted to expand and change.

The gambling industry in Spain accounts for about 1% of GDP, which directly and indirectly employs more than 100,000 workers, which in turn provides more than 5,000 million euro to various public projects.  The Spanish online gambling industry lacked proper regulation until the country realized that offshore operators were gaining traction and taking a larger portion of revenue generated by wagering done online. A lengthy and difficult process resulted in the development of the Gambling Act, with government licensing of online gambling available in Spain in 2012. CODERE Interactiva offers legal internet gambling advancing the firm’s mission to convert CODERE into a global gambling operator. CODERE has in recent years expanded its presence in a number of Latin American jurisdictions that are open to regulated online betting.

Now in 2015 the firm has announced it has signed a partnership agreement with NetEnt to deliver a range of casino games to the operator’s online casino in Spain. NetEnt is currently in the licensing process in Spain with expectations of launching its line of gambling products and services in Spain this year.

NetEnt Malta managing director and chief of European market operations, Enrico Bradamante, commented on the arrangement, “We are excited to partner with CODERE and for the opportunity to provide their online players with our world-class thrilling games. CODERE is a market leader in Spain, which is one of our prioritized countries when it comes to new regulated markets with strong growth potential”

Ángel Fernández, Marketing Manager for CODERE Apuestas, also commented, "The agreement reinforces CODERE’s customer-centric strategy focused on maximizing the so-called CODERE Experience and boosting the convergence of channels.”
