SportsHub Takes Over Fantasy Sports Firm RG Ventures

SportsHub Technologies, a Minneapolis USA based fantasy sports and e-sports start-up has announced it has purchased the assets of RG Ventures LLC and its affiliates, including the CDM Sports’ suite of Fantasy Challenge and Draft and Play games.

SportsHub Technologies was founded in 2015 by a team of veteran fantasy sports industry insiders and is committed to preserving trusted brands and aggregating season-long game players. SportsHub will operate the games under the trade name "CDM Sports." This acquisition hails SportsHub's first move into the season-long fantasy sports business with expectations of more consolidation in the future.

Chief Executive Officer for SportsHub Technologies, Rob Phythian, commented, "For more than two decades, CDM Sports has established a reputation as one of the most trusted brands in the season-long pay-to-play fantasy sports industry," Phythian continued, "The users that play CDM games love to compete for cash prizes and socialize with other users they have known for years. We value these loyal customers and understand the opportunities to grow a business built around season-long games."

CDM Sports, created in 1991, made its name in the fantasy sports world following its legal victory in 2006 against Major League Baseball. The league tried to prevent the company from using players’ names and statistics. A trial court judge ruled in favour of the firm which has grown in popularity since. Charlie Wiegert, one of the original founders of CDM Fantasy Sports and a member of the FSTA Hall of Fame, will be part of the team operating contests for SportsHub under the CDM Sports brand. RG Ventures formed by Wiegert bought CDM Sports from Fun Technologies in 2011.

Phythian also said, "We look forward to welcoming back the thousands of loyal players who have been waiting patiently to get their 2016 leagues started. Long time players can be assured that we will keep game play consistent and continue to provide a suite of games where all players have a chance to win."
