IMPORTANT UPDATE - LASSETERS ONLINE CASINO HAS CLOSED

I first played at Lasseters casino around 4 years ago. Back then I remember being attracted by the fact it was fully regulated and licensed by a recognised government body. Today (2008) that's very much still the case and the fact Lasseters is overseen by the Northern Territory Government of Australia is still a massive draw for many people. However, during the past 4 years a lot of work has gone in to giving this online casino a facelift and so, keen to see what has changed, I decided to revisit this no-download casino and give it another whirl.

The Lasseters name comes about because of the fact the owners of this online casino actually own and operate a very well known hotel chain and casino complex of the same name. As such, players can be instantly reassured by the fact the managers of this casino certainly know what they are doing! The fact that the casino has been operating online since the late 1990s (a long time in the internet world) also suggests Lasseters Online should now operate like a well-oiled machine.

Lasseters Casino is a no-download casino and as such the usual hassles of downloading and installing software doesn't apply in this case. Rather a player simply has to click a few links on the casino website and they are up and running. Although I had played here before, the software changes that have taken place meant I had to re-register an account. This is simple though and within a few minutes I had submitted my personal details to the casino's servers. When I played previously, the play currency was Australian Dollars which I certainly found odd at the time - although the casino is based in Australia I am not sure that many people will be familiar with that currency and prevailing exchange rates! However, Lasseters now operates using US Dollar, UK Pounds and Euros - much more in-line with this casino's audience. Similarly, a multi-lingual configuration on the home page will appeal to non-English speakers. I personally opted to create a US dollar account, although players from the US should note that they are actually forbidden from playing at this casino.

Banking at Lasseters is quick and easy and I was impressed to discover very low minimum deposit requirements - for example credit card users can deposit just $5 if they wish. Of course, as well as credit card other popular deposit options are available including NeTeller, Click 2 Pay and Moneybookers. I used my NeTeller account to deposit $100 and the money shows up in my newly created account within a few seconds.

As a 'new' player to the casino (at least in terms of their new software) I decided to see if any of the new player promotions caught my eye. In the end I chose not to claim anything on this occasion. However, bonus fans will love to learn that 100% match deposit bonuses are available on a player's first five deposits! This is pretty much unheard of in the world of bonuses and will definitely tempt some people. Although each match is limited to $100, this still means that $500 in free money can be claimed. $500 can certainly go a long way towards hitting a jackpot here or there! With other 'cash back' bonuses awarded throughout the year as well as other promotions offering players incentives to play, I concluded that Lasseters is certainly a casino that seems to look after loyal players.

When it comes to game selection at Lasseters the first thing that struck me is how much the casino has come on since my previous play here. The selection of games now available is impressive, particularly considering the no-download nature of this casino. Given this selection, it makes sense that the casino uses a category system to break games down by type. As such, finding games should not be a problem with this casino.

To begin my play, and despite the massive choice of games available to me, I opted for some Blackjack play. However, I always that Blackjack is a good game to test a casino and as well as being hugely popular, it's also a great game! Lasseters offer two forms of Vegas Blackjack - both are multi-hand games with one aimed at the lower-rollers (allowing bets of $1-$300) and the other strictly for the big guns ($25 - $3000 per spot!). Both games allow bets to be placed on up to 3 spots and within a few hands I had quickly settled in to the swing of things.

The game is representative of how far Lasseters has come in the past few years and whereas past playing experiences left me wanting more in terms of graphics and sound effects, this time around I was truly impressed with the clean, high-quality graphics and sound effects now employed. Similarly, the presentation is such that it's still very easy for a player to understand what is happening - there is no chance of accidentally making the wrong moves at this casino. I also liked the game speed and even when I tried the casino on a dial-up connection I didn't suffer from any game play lag.

As well as Blackjack I also tried my luck at the Caribbean Stud Poker table. Again, a similar quality of graphics and sound effects was on show. Sadly, my luck wasn't really doing much and the dealer really was dealing my rubbish cards. I certainly didn't come anywhere near hitting the progressive jackpot during this playing session which stood at over $2000 at the time of playing.

After deciding the table game selection was fun but not being particularly good to me I decided to move on to check out the Video Poker games offered by Lasseters. In terms of game variety I have to say with this part of the casino I wasn't as impressed. A nice selection of popular games is available (e.g. Jacks or Better, Jokers Wild etc.) However, some of the more innovative VP games are also absent. Similarly, although some multi-hand games are available, those players that like betting on 50, 100 or more hands at once will be disappointed.

Nevertheless, in terms of the games that are available, again the quality is good and was really impressed that the Jacks or Better game allowed bets of up to $30 per coin! This equates to $150 per play and with a Royal Flush paying 4,000 coins, high-rollers would be very happy if their cards came in! Sadly I didn't come anywhere near a Royal Flush and indeed seemed to have difficulties even hitting 3-of-a-Kind. I did get a few low winners though which kept my bank balance afloat, although after all my Table and Video Poker play I was left with just $50 of my starting $100.

The next stop for me was to check out the intriguingly-titled 'Games Vault. This turned out to be a selection of fun games that cannot really be categorised. As such, Keno-type games could be found here but so too could some fun games that are not often found at online casinos. For example, 'Digit' is an addictive game where three numbers appear with each number being either a '1' or a '0'. Players can bet on whether a 1 or a 0 will appear as well as whether the total will be odd or even. Although this sounds slightly dull the cumulative bet feature means some big winnings can be had!

The final thing for me to do was to test the slots available at Lasseters. What I found was a real hit and miss selection of games. Some were excellent with great graphics and all the features a player now expects from a slot - bonus rounds, free spins and more. And yet others were distinctly average if not verging on the poor. I guess what has happened is that Lasseters have simply continued to add to their game range and as such some of the very old games are mixed in with the newer ones. Of course, all games are fair and it may be some players like the older games, but for me the newer games were definitely the ones which held appeal.

I particularly enjoyed the Arctic Adventure game which uses nice arctic-themed graphics to display wins. This game also has a range of bonus features and although I didn't really win anything, I still had fun playing this game. Similarly, the Cleopatra game attracted me enough to lose a good chunk of my money - as well as the free spin and scatter features, the $50,000 top prize pay off was also quite a temptation!

Disappointingly, despite having a really enjoyable playing experience at Lasseters I came away with a bank balance of zero and therefore nothing to cash in. However, Lasseters are completely trustworthy when it comes to withdrawal processing with the majority of withdrawals being processed within 1-3 business days. The only thing I will ask players to note is that ID must be sent to the casino before they can even request a withdrawal. Although this is done with player security in mind, I can imagine a number of players have lost their bankroll when they've discovered the withdrawal option is not available (due to ID not having been processed).

Similarly, customer support is also good with players able to get help via email and live chat. Although usually I complain when telephone support isn't available, with Lasseters the support they do have is so good that telephone support would really just be a nice to have. From my tests I found that even email contact is responded to within a matter of minutes and as such players should have no concerns about help not being available when they need it.

To conclude Lasseters is a good casino and has definitely come a long way since it has been operating. With backing from a major organisation, players can be assured that the management of this casino know what they are doing and the fact this online casino is fully licensed goes even further in terms of conveying trust and competence. The game selection itself is good and although some areas of the casino could be improved, generally I was happy with what I found. In the most part games are of a good quality and there's really nothing bad to report in terms of finance processing and customer support. Lasseters has been around for a while and for those looking for a trustworthy place to play, Lasseters should certainly feature in a player's consideration.
