The European Roulette Wheel

The European Wheel
The European roulette wheel - also known as Single Zero roulette or sometimes French Roulette is very similar to the
American roulette wheel.
The most important difference is that the European wheel only has a single zero - whereas the American wheel has a single zero and a double zero. Another difference, is that the numbers on the American roulette wheel are placed in pairs opposite of one another - whereas the numbers are placed in a more random order on the European wheel. In my opinion, the European single zero roulette table is more beautiful in symmetry - whereas the American table is more practical during play, as the red/black and odd/even are placed right next to each other, and the first18/last18 betting spots are placed right next to the single numbers. |

The European single zero roulette offers the player better odds then the American wheel - because is only has a single zero whereas the American wheel also has a double zero. This affects the odds more than you may think: The house edge on a single number bet on the American wheel with 38 different numbers is 2/38 - or 5.26%. The house edge on the European wheel has only a single zero, so the house edge on this bet is only 1/37 - or 2.70%. When the odds shift so much, you should always be looking for the single zero European roulette. |
