Betfair NSW Tigers Team Up

The Australian online gambling public in the state of New South Wales will have more choice where to place their bets now that Wests Tigers have cut a new deal with Betfair. Betfair is the largest online betting company in the UK and the largest bet exchange in the world. Betfair currently has over 2,000,000 clients and a turnover in excess of £50m/week. The company is based in Hammersmith in West London, a world away from Australia.

The Tigers and Betfair created this partnership after working out the details for almost a year. The club did comprehensive studies to be sure that the move would be supported and manageable, while sustaining corporate viability.

Wests Tigers marketing manager Brett Clarke said, "We're in partnership, not sponsorship," adding, "We will deliver key marketing objectives. We aren't being promised revenue share [like other clubs]. It is a marketing split. We're not relying on the club's supporters to put money into their club [via a gambling site]."

Hugh Taggart from Betfair said "While the Australian Football League provided the bulk of their business last year, they had more customers in New South Wales than anywhere else in Australia. According to the Roy Morgan Data company the Wests Tigers has a fan base of almost half a million, making them the most popular in New South Wales. The club has had the highest turn out numbers at it's matches in Sydney over the past three years. It has solid sponsorship and a money making merchandising division.

The Sun-Herald NSW revealed last week, football clubs are struggling. The NSW Government's poker machine tax has cut back funds, major sponsors are flagging with the economic meltdown, and players' are still payed large. Wests Tigers has a lot going for it and now with a six figure deal with one of the worlds largest online gambling companies on board as a partner they are sure to score big.
