GTech Looses to Intralot in Louisiana Lottery Deal

The Louisiana Lottery Corporation has granted Intralot the Greek lottery systems supplier the contract to run Louisiana's draw beginning in July next year. The contract to supply 2,800 points of sale terminals and other peripheral materials and equipment will last for ten years.
Intralot's chief executive officer Constantinos Antonopoulos said he expected the current downturn would lead to opportunities as both local and national governments looked to expanded gambling as a possible solution to widening budget deficits. He was speaking after the company released its figures for the year showing consolidated revenues up 28 percent. This deal with the Louisiana Lottery Corporation is the seventh lottery licence contract acquired in the US for Intralot and the fourth in the past two years.
GTech also bid on the contract to provide lottery services to the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, a contract that it has held since 1991.
GTech announced earlier it had signed a three-year extension with the Minnesota State Lottery to provide online lottery technology as well as additional self-service and multimedia products.
GTech has been supplying lottery products to Minnesota since 2002. The company said it now expects to earn over $25m in revenues per year from Minnesota as of February 2013. GTech announced earlier in March the company had been chosen by the New York Lottery as the preferred bidder to negotiate for a seven-year integrated services contract for new online lottery services.
Since 1986, GTech has been a lottery technology and service provider to New York. GTech's bid include a full suite of online and instant services and as many as 20,000 online lottery terminals with a variety of self-service lottery products. The New York Lottery estimates the contract, expected to start in March next year, will be worth a total of $550m during the seven-year period. The details of the contract are expected to be approved by June 10.
