The United Kingdom has seen sponsorships for it sporting clubs come and go in recent years from beer companies to automobile firms and now the latest trend online gambling operators. Global online gambling firm Sportingbet recently announced that it has signed a three year agreement with Leeds United Football Club to begin at the start of the 2010/11 nPower Championship season.
The exercise is all about brand building which Sportingbet has already begun with other sports sponsorship programs involving cricket, rugby and other football clubs in the U.K.
The Leeds United deal follows Sportingbet's shirt sponsorship agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers which has realized a significant increase in traffic, registrations and players to the Sportingbet website.
Chief Executive Officer of Sportingbet, Andy McIver, said, "Leeds United fans are up there as some of the most dedicated supporters in the country and we're excited to be joining them at the start of this new season in the Championship. Leeds United FC, Chief Executive Officer, Shaun Harvey, commented on the deal, "We are delighted to announce the new betting partner agreement with one of the largest International online bookmakers.
