France Gets to Host World Series of Poker Europe in 2011

The World Series of Poker was founded in 1970 and in 2010, the WSOP attracted over 72,000 entrants from 117 different countries and awarded over $187 million in prize money. In a recent announcement that stunned the U.K. online poker community the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe will be moved to France, marking the first change in venue in the five year history of the event. The 2011 WSOPE will be held in Cannes, atthe Casino Barrière de Cannes Croisette and the Hôtel Majestic Barrière.

The change in venues will allow the tournament to accommodate 75 tables, giving it twice the capacity that it has previously enjoyed at the Casino of the Empire in London. The 2011 edition of the WSOPE will feature seven bracelet events up from five bracelet events last year. The event will be rebranded as World Series of Poker Europe Presented by BarierePoker.fr. In addition, the Barrière Poker Tour 2011 will include seven stops qualifying for the World Series of Poker Europe.

Caesars Interactive Entertainment, Inc. and Lucien Barrière Hôtels & Casinos and BarrierePoker.fr are combining forces to offer a major tournament better than any that came before.
