The Ongame Network exited the American jurisdiction back in 2006 when the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act came about. Not long after the online poker site PokerRoom.com which was established in 1999 and very popular among poker players suffered a similar fate and left the web in 2009.

Now after along pause in the action three years to be exact pioneering online poker site, Poker Room, has decided to open it’s doors once more to the online poker players of the world. Rumours were swirling recently that this would happen and unsubstantiated reports surfaced from the Bwin offices in Stockholm Sweden that the poker room would be offering the cards on the virtual felt again soon.

The 2009 announcement that the PokerRoom.com site would be shut down was hailed as the "End of an Era", it went on to say, "after almost ten years of fun and games, it is with heavy heart and a tear in my eye that I have to announce that this is it: as of 11:00 today, Poker Room will no longer be open for online poker." Continuing it read, "We have seen players qualify online for just a few bucks and turn it into tens of thousands at the biggest poker tournaments in the world and seen guys that were used to playing against their mates in lounge rooms mix it up with the very best players in the world."

The reasoning behind the reopening of the PokerRoom site is obvious since the announcement recently that Bwin.party is trying to flog the Ongame Network and wants to increase its value by re introducing an established brand in to the marketplace. The other obvious reason is the move by Bwin.party digital to re-establish itself in the American jurisdiction following its recently signed agreement with Boyd Gaming and MGM. A larger customer base is being built with the announcement of the re-opening.
