Victor Chandler Review

Victor Chandler:

Victor Chandler is a UK-betting organization that has been running for over 60 years. From building dog racing tracks to opening high-street betting shops, Victor Chandler has always been at the cutting edge of the gambling industry. Having been one of the first companies to set-up off shore 'tax free' gambling in Gibraltar in 1999, it comes as no surprise to learn that the company has more recently branched out to set up an online betting site. Whilst VC offers various opportunities to have a gamble, I specifically was interested in checking out the Chartwell-powered VC casino.

To begin playing, a gambler must first visit the VC Casino website. The website itself contains most information required by a player and is completely integrated. As such, just one account is needed to bet on any part of the VC site, whether it be the casino, the poker room or the sports book.

For those that have never played at a Chartwell-powered casino, one of the biggest draws is that the casino is completely no-download. As such, it doesn't matter whether you are on the slowest dial-up or the fastest broadband connection, there should never be a problem with playing. Similarly, it means that any new games are automatically developed with a no-download view point. It annoys me at other sites where new games seem to only be introduced in the download casino.

Signing up at Victor Chandler is easy, and unlike some competitor casinos, VC Casino doesn't ask for your life history in return for membership. Instead, a player simply needs to detail their name, date of birth, address and email address to have an account created. This is a UK-focused casino, and so naturally play is allowed in UK £. However, a good range of other currencies are also available - including US$, Euros, and even the native currencies of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. This is a nice touch, and will be particularly welcomed by Scandinavian players. As stated earlier, signing-up for the casino also means you have access to the other parts of the VC site.

Depositing into your Victor Chandler account is straight forward, and I was impressed at the low $10 minimum deposit (I set up a US $ account). When it comes to deposit methods, VC Casino does not offer a huge selection. However, credit and debit cards along with NETeller and EcoCard are all accepted depositing methods. I funded my account with NETeller, and within seconds my $100 deposit was approved and reflected in my account balance.

New players do not automatically receive an immediate sign-up bonus. However, after reaching a certain level of wagering, a free bonus can be claimed with no strings attached. I think this is a clever system, meaning players are able to play with their own money without having to meet certain requirements before cashing in. Similarly, loyal players are able to claim a nice bonus when the required level of wagering has been met. The bonus itself is available in various amounts, up to a maximum of £150.

With VC Casino being a web-based gambling site, it is a simple pop-up window that acts as the gateway to the casino games. A menu system breaks the games down by type, from which a player can select the exact game they want. To begin my play, I decided to check out the table games available and specifically chose to play Blackjack.

VC Casino offers 4 different Blackjack tables, including a single-deck variety. The game I chose to play allowed bets on up to three different spots and, like many of the VC games, the Blackjack table offered nice betting minimums and maximums. In fact, many of the card games at VC Casino offer a number of tables based on betting size. The minimum table for Blackjack, for example, was set-up as a $1-$100 table. The maximum, on the other hand, was set up to accept bets ranging from $150 to a massive $4,000! This makes Victor Chandler one of the best casinos for high betting limits, although I'd hate to place 3 x $4,000 bets only to see a dealer Blackjack!

Of course, while big wins (or losses) may shape a person's opinion of a place, for me the entertainment factor should be the overriding factor in choosing where to play. I personally think Victor Chandler does well in this area. The graphics used are not tremendous, but are certainly decent enough. And while the gray color of the table games may not suit everybody, I actually liked the simplicity of the game presentation. More importantly, nice extras such as sound effects and fast game play further enhance the offering.

In terms of luck, I actually did OK at the Blackjack table and was able to make a few successful splits and doubles which gave my bank roll an early boost. I did then check out some of the other table games available, but as the offering was pretty standard relative to many other casinos, I won't go into detail. Needless to say that all classic table games are available here including Baccarat, Stud Poker and Red Dog, as well as some harder-to-find games such as 3-Card Poker and Pai Gow Poker.

Unfortunately, the range of Video Poker games at VC Casino is not quite so great. Basically, 4 basic games are available - Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, All American and Joker Poker. Each game is also then replicated in a 4-hand version. Having said that, the games that are available are presented well, and offer the standard range of betting options.

However, while my comments may not sound too great when it comes to Victor Chandler video poker, there is one final Video Poker game which I haven't mentioned yet. This game is Challenge Poker, and I think this unique game is pretty great. Challenge poker has 4 pay lines, however each pay line is played separately and to climb the pay lines a winning hand must be achieved on the hand currently in play. What's more, the different pay lines follow different rules (Deuces Wild, Jacks or Better etc.). This is certainly a challenge, but the rewards can be huge thanks to clever multiples that come in to play at the high hands. For example the top pay line, if reached, pays out 8x any win achieved - imagine getting a Royal Flush with that multiplier in play!

When it comes to slots at Victor Chandler Casino, the story is pretty much the same as with the Video Poker part of the casino - a small selection is available but the games that are available are pretty good fun. One positive thing I would say is that it's nice to see a casino with different games compared to the majority of other sites. Unfortunately, with so many casinos using the same software, I do sometimes get bored with the offerings of VC Casino's competitors.

One thing that will particularly appeal to slot fans is that the minimum bet on a number of games is just $0.01 per line. With some slots having just 3 paylines it means a bet can be placed for just $0.03. With the volatility of slots often eating up a modest bankroll, it's nice to find a casino where a player can get a decent amount of play for their money. What's more, some of the games can play very nicely. The Bullseye Bucks game, for example, paid me $8.55 for just a $0.45 bet when I activated the bonus round.

Unfortunately, not all the games I played were as profitable as this one. The Pot O' Gold game, in particular, seemed to play very tight, and I barely got a hit while playing. In fact, I ended up losing $75 on this particular game - which pretty much killed my bankroll. I do think the VC Casino slots are pretty good fun though, with each one having pretty nice graphics and sound effects. This is particularly impressive considering the no-download nature of this casino. As stated already though, the real disappointment with the VC Casino slots is just the variety - only 17 slot games are available in total.

On this occasion I had nothing to cash out despite a pretty good start. Unfortunately, the Pot O Gold slot stopped me from making anything. I didn't even wager enough to receive the sign-up bonus, but I guess that's how casinos go from time to time! Of course, with Victor Chandler being a respected name, a player should have no issues with cashing out - a next day withdrawal policy (with no pending periods) should definitely satisfy the majority of players.

When it comes to support, it has to be said that this is very much UK-focused. Telephone support is offered, but is only toll free for UK players. This is a slight disappointment, although email support is available for players across the world. Whilst this support function works well, I did feel more could be done in this area, particularly considering other sites where live chat is being used more and more.

In conclusion, I have to say I actually quite liked VC casino. The software is not anything amazing, but does pretty well at presenting a decent selection of games. The betting limits are definitely a draw for both high rollers at the card tables and low-rollers on the slot games. It's just a shame the Video Poker and Slot selection is so limited. Nevertheless, the games that are available are generally well presented, and money issues are definitely handled well at this casino. Support is competent, albeit slightly lacking for non-UK players; but all in all I think those looking for a casino operated by a major name could do a lot worse than Victor Chandler.
