As someone who enjoys a good bit of barbecue, Grug or whoever it was that first got this whole meat meet flame thing going is the GOAT in my book. In fact, my biggest complaint is that there aren’t more graphics of, say, a whole mastodon rib grilling to perfection, and the Burnt Wild multipliers that do show food on the reels are garish and unappetizing.

Well, that and why wouldn’t you call the wildfire symbols, Wild Fire? Nothing wrong with Burning Wilds, but an opportunity missed in my book. Perhaps a trade mark issue? In any case, Grug has his work cut out for him, battling various dinosaurs and ensuring a good char on his kebab. No wonder he stands over there looking miffed and in need of a good basting brush or perhaps a spear.

Full Rules & Information About the Grug Make Fire Online Slot

In typical Hacksaw fashion, we have a high-volatility game, but one offering a pretty good RTP of 96.13%. The 21% hit frequency also tracks with many other Hacksaw games, and the 5×4 grid seems a bit familiar as well. Bets can range from 10 cents to $100, so there’s plenty of room for players of all bankrolls. However, the usual Hacksaw Buy Bonus can run a bit steep, with the ability to buy your way into the first bonus round, Grug Finds Food, costing 100x, and the second bonus round, Grug Fight Dino setting you back 200x.

We’ve got 14 paylines we are working with, and the easiest way to get some action going on them is to land the aforementioned Burning Wild. It will burn/activate all symbols above it. Any lower-paying symbols that are thus burnt also turn into regular wilds at that point. Now, higher paying symbols, think any of the dinosaurs, when burnt, turn into juicy Burnt Wild Multipliers. These can range in value from 2x to 200x.

So, any of the dinosaur symbols, once thrown on the barbie and cooked off by a Burning Wild symbol landing below it, can really heat things up. Of course, if you can get several prehistoric/dinosaur symbols above a well-stoked Burning Wild, you can really have a feast.

Grug Make Fire Symbols & Payouts

The lower-paying symbols are the always-reliable Ace through Ten. You’ll need at least three to a payline to trigger a payout. Interestingly, all five symbols here pay the same. The higher-paying symbols are the prehistoric animals, the fish, and a slightly bird-like thing that would probably be delicious, but we are thinking it would take a heck of a sauce to pull off a grilled sabre-toothed tiger or even T. rex. Five of those T-Rex pay 20x by the way.

Five Burning Wilds Pays 20x

Burning Wild and Burnt Wild multipliers substitute for all symbols. Regular wilds only appear once a lower-paying symbol has been burned, and you can only land one Burning Wild symbol per reel.

  • All symbols: 10
  • Highest-Paying Symbol: Red T-Rex
  • Wilds: Multiplier Wilds
  • Paylines Pay: Left to Right
  • Maximum Win: 10,000x

Grug Make Fire Bonuses & Features

We need three of the toothy FS scatters to enter the Bonus round. Each of these can have a value of two to five, which, when added together, is the number of free spins you will begin the bonus round with. But FS scatters can be burnt as well, and if charred, they can increase to three through six.

The first bonus game could then have anywhere from 6 to 18 free spins available, depending on the numbers on these scatter symbols. There is an increased chance of landing more Burning Wild symbols during this Grug Find Food round. Should you land yet even more FS scatters, you once again add to your free spin total.

Should you land four of these FS scatters in the base game we get to play the Grug Fight Dino bonus round. Obviously, the number of free spins here can be anywhere from 8 to 24 to get things started. This bonus round has a progressive WildFire Bar across the top.

Once you hit certain levels you are awarded a Burnt Reel. For instance, you need 12 winning symbols to get your first Burnt Reel. These work just like the Burning Wild Symbols, but here the entire reel is burned. Get 46 winning symbols for your second Burnt Reel, 96 for your third, and 150 gets you all four.

We can enter either of these bonus rounds through the bonus buy feature, as well as a game called BonusHunt Feature Spins, which gets you 10 times more likelihood of a bonus game, which costs 5x your wager. There is also a Grug Play FeatureSpins, which, for 50x your bet, guarantees that at least one Burning Wild symbol will light up your reel.

Similar Games & Best Alternatives

I was reminded very much of Hacksaw’s Life and Death slot while playing this game, which is understandable given that game’s 2x to 5x Wild multiplier. Though it also shares some DNA with Army of Ares, and its Wild Wrath reels which can similarly add multipliers to Grug Make Fire.

If you want to play a relaxing, slightly less volatile cave man slot, might we suggest Relax Gaming’s Caveman Bob. And while you didn’t hear it from us, DraftKings has a Sauce Boss BBQ game that will have your stomach rumbling in no time.

Fire Good. Multiplier Better.

Grug may be onto something here. This whole idea of cooking raw meat over an open flame might just take off. But even if it doesn’t, this whole Burning Wild mechanic might just stick around. It gives the base game a feeling that anything can happen, and then in the bonus rounds, it can lead to some mouth-watering payoffs.

The real thrill here, though, is found in the Grog Fight Dino round. The WildFire Bar and the entire reels burning kicks this game up a notch and gets you on the edge of your seat in a way few recent Hacksaw titles have.
