How to Dress When Visiting a Casino

Casinos are known for being glamorous, sophisticated places that can attract some very rich, influential people. Naturally, a lot of them have a dress code you should stick to when visiting. This isn’t always set in stone, though.

Visiting a Casino and What to Wear

You’re heading to a casino and looking forward to letting your hair down and maybe even scoring a win. But there’s one thing you’re not sure about: what do you wear to a casino?

You might think the clothes you wear for a night out might be good enough. After all, many people who go to local casinos in the UK do so on an evening as part of a night out.

But then again, what if you’re visiting during the day? Would the same style of clothes be accepted? There’s also the matter of dress codes and etiquette that influence what you can and can’t wear.

When deciding what to wear to a casino, you don’t have to overthink it. Even if it seems like there are rules and guidelines, choosing something to wear can still be straightforward.

Dress Codes

Before visiting a casino, it’s a good idea to check whether a dress code exists. If there is, the casino should list what’s acceptable and what you should avoid wearing.

Bear in mind that if there’s a dress code, you should follow it. This is because casinos have the right to deny entry to and turn away people who aren’t dressed in a particular way.

The good news is that even though dress codes can be restrictive, they still allow for lots of clothing options and styles. There’s room for you to experiment and try different looks.

If you don’t fit the dress code, you could be denied entry at the door. If there’s no one at the door, a staff member on the floor will eventually spot you and ask you to leave.

So, what happens if you’re a member and you turn up with clothing that goes against the dress code? Your membership shouldn’t be affected,as long as you respect the casino’s decision and leave when asked to.

When visiting a casino with a dress code, make sure you choose clothing and shoes that fall in line with the requirements. Your attire should also be comfortable so you can relax and enjoy yourself.

Some less formal casinos relax their dress code during the day. This means that you can get away with wearing casual clothes such as jeans and a T-shirt. Whatever you wear, you still have to look presentable.

Casinos that are in more upmarket locations tend not to relax their dress codes. No matter when you visit, you have to stick to the code and wear smart, formal clothing.

This can include dress pants, shoes, button-down shirts, and a jacket or blazer for men. As for women, trouser suits, cocktail dresses and trousers paired with a smart blouse are suitable options to consider.

If in doubt, contact the casino in advance of your visit. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about what you can and can’t wear. Even if your question might be trivial, it’s best to ask and be sure.

When There’s No Dress Code

Some casinos, especially those in more tourist-friendly areas, don’t have an official dress code in place. However, this doesn’t mean that you should turn up wearing whatever you like.

Whether a casino has a dress code or not, and no matter where the casino is, there’s still an unwritten expectation of what you should wear. Casino attire should always be of a semi-formal or smart casual style.

Having said that, you may get away with wearing something a bit more casual. This is possible if you visit during the day and the casino isn’t a high-end venue.

Whatever time you visit, you should look socially acceptable and presentable. Again, if you’re unsure about your clothing, it’s best to check with the casino before going there.

As a general rule of thumb, you should be slightly overdressed. It’s better to turn up looking formal than too casual, which runs the risk of you not fitting the casino’s vibe and being asked to leave.

What You Shouldn’t Wear

In addition to knowing what counts as accepted casino attire, you should be aware of the sorts of clothing items you shouldn’t wear at casinos. There are certain things pretty much every casino won’t allow.

These include any piece of clothing that’s ripped or reveals a significant amount of skin. Sports clothing such as football shirts and vest tops is also considered unsuitable for casinos.

Clothing with inappropriate, vulgar or offensive material on it shouldn’t be worn to casinos. Ideally, you should wear plain clothes that are free from images or brand names or anything like that.

Flip-flops and sandals more than likely won’t be accepted; make sure your shoes are closed-toed. As for headwear, this is best avoided, so no hoodies or caps should be worn.

Whatever you wear, it should be clean. If your clothes are visibly dirty, have an abundance of creases, and look like they haven’t been washed in ages, you probably won’t be allowed in.

Dress for the Occasion

Going to a casino can be a wonderful occasion, so why not make an effort and dress up for it? So long as you look smart and presentable, you should fit in with the crowd.

Stick to the dress code if there is one; if not, dress as if you’re attending a fancy event, and you shouldn’t have any issues. Remember to choose clothing you can relax in, and don’t forget to have fun!
