Key Facts:
- European Casino Security and Safety Workshop is scheduled for April 8-9.
- The European Casino Association has chosen a famous Swiss casino as the venue for the event.
- The Safety Workshop will take place under strict confidentiality.
- European Dealer Championship is the next event on the Association’s calendar.
“Strict confidentiality” is the message ahead of The European Casino Association’s Security and Safety Workshop scheduled for April 8-9. The gathering will take place in Casino Lugano, Switzerland – a historically significant venue that hosted the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956.
The European Casino Association (ECA), which declares its main purpose and objective is to address and promote issues related to casinos, represents the interests of approximately 900 casinos with over 70,000 employees in 27 European countries.
Describing itself “as a network for information; information that shall be used to communicate and work with the EU institutions on anything related to casino operations,” the ECU is also purposed with providing information on casino operations and casino administration.
Roulette Arms Race to Casino Armed Robbery
This network will be at its best at the forthcoming workshop, with an impressive list of speakers covering a broad range of topics, from ‘The AI Arms Race at the Roulette Wheel’ to ‘Armed Robbery: Prevention, Investigation, Reaction’.
Under a topic titled, ‘Connecting the Dots: How Data-Driven Investigation Uncovered a Long-Running Casino Fraud’, Dennis Spann, Fraud Specialist at Holland Casino, appears set to deliver one of the most interesting presentations. He will highlight a real investigation in which employee/customer suspicion evolved into the exposure of a large-scale fraud.
An ECU teaser says, “By combining open-source intelligence, structured data analysis and targeted review of surveillance footage, the investigative team was able to piece together a timeline that no single source could have revealed alone. Attendees will see how each layer of evidence – digital traces, transactional data and camera imagery – reinforced the others to build an indisputable factual picture.”
Members Only in Casino Confidence
While the wider public may find the story fascinating and potential fraudsters beneficial, the ECS’s Security and Safety Workshop will take place under strict confidentiality, meaning only employees of ECA member casinos can attend.
Delegates are also asked to treat anything disclosed during the meeting – including comments, documents and discussions – as ‘for participants only’, warning they should not share, quote, record, photograph, or circulate any content outside the group, either publicly or privately.
More British Glory for the UK in Dealers’ Champs?
The ECU’s next event will be a far more relaxed gathering. From June 8 to June 10, the organisation will stage the 2026 European Dealer Championship in Germany’s Casino Baden-Baden, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most historic and beautiful casinos.
First staged in 2007, the event is hosted by a different venue each year. In 2025, the competition was held at Casino Bregenz in Austria, with Mathew Taylor-Harrison of the UK’s Hippodrome Casino taking the title.
Having claimed the UK Casino Dealer Champion title during January’s London Casino and Gaming show at Excel London, Alexander Wells of Les Ambassadeurs Casino, is among the early favourites for the 2026 European Dealer Championship title.
