  • The outgoing chair, Jenny Watson CBE, has paid tribute to GAMSTOP’s “remarkable journey” over the past few years
  • GAMSTOP is currently seeking a replacement for Watson
  • She was recently nominated for a Non-Executive Director of the Year award to recognise her work with GAMSTOP

More than 560,000 individuals have signed up to self-exclude from online gambling services in the UK using GAMSTOP.

GAMSTOP’s annual report was highlighted by the group’s outgoing chair Jenny Watson, who is leaving her role having been in the post since 2018.

Watson, whose successor is being sought by GAMSTOP, paid tribute to the “remarkable journey” that the organisation has been on over the past few years.

Joining a self-exclusion scheme such as GAMSTOP prevents people from being able to access online gambling sites, including casinos and bookmakers.

A study into GAMSTOP by Ipsos also found that 75% of its users no longer gamble online.

Transformation And Recovery

In her statement, Watson noted the impact GAMSTOP has made for users.

“We have made significant progress in our mission to safeguard people from the harms of gambling addiction, positively impacting hundreds of thousands of lives. Our success is measured not only by the numbers but by the stories of transformation and recovery. Over the years we have heard from many consumers who credit GAMSTOP with helping them regain control over their lives. These personal accounts are a powerful reminder of the importance of our work and the profound impact it has on individuals and their families.”Jenny Watson

As she prepares to leave GAMSTOP, Watson believes the organisation is in good shape. She added:

“I am confident the organisation is well-positioned to achieve the important objective of making gambling safer for everyone.”Jenny Watson

No Longer Ashamed

GAMSTOP’s annual report includes case studies from those who have used the service to stop themselves from accessing online gambling sites such as casinos.

With research showing that almost four-fifths (78%) of GAMSTOP users are happy with how it has performed for them, the value of the service is priceless.

One GAMSTOP user told of how her husband had lost £100,000 through gambling before signing up, which has had a transformative impact on their lives.

“My partner is no longer ashamed of his experience, we talk about his gambling with friends and family, and he supports the show… [He] is in recovery, we have tools in place, and I control our finances.”Anonymous GAMSTOP User

GAMSTOP is entirely free for its users and the services pledges this will always be the case.
