Juan Ayuso Now Heads the Giro d’Italia 2025 Betting List

Misfortune on a calamitous Stage 9 has seen Primož Roglič slip to third in the 2025 Giro d’Italia betting.

Key Facts:

  • Primož Roglič is now tenth in Giro d’Italia 2025 standings.
  • Juan Ayuso sits second in the General Classification and is the new favourite.
  • Britain’s Josh Tarling is expected to take the Tuesday Time Trial.

The 2025 Giro d’Italia was blown wide open on Sunday when Stage 9, the highly anticipated ‘Strade Bianche’ stage of the race, saw the pre-race favourite, Primož Roglič, suffer a crash and then a puncture. As a result, the Slovenian has dropped to tenth in the General Classification.

Roglič had worn the leader’s Maglia Rosa (pink) jersey on Stage 2 and Stage 7 and started Sunday’s stage as the 8/13 favourite for outright victory in the race he last won in 2023. Other riders who have worn the pink jersey are veteran Diego Ulissi and sprinter Mads Pedersen.

Isaac del Toro is the new race leader. The 21-year-old Mexican broke away from the field to enter the Piazza del Campo – the main public space of the historic centre of Siena – in company with stage winner Wout van Aert. The pair crossed the line 58 seconds and more ahead of all rivals.

UAE Teammates Now Top the Betting

Juan Ayuso, recommended on 2/1 odds in our 2025 Giro d’Italia preview, is the new race favourite. The Spaniard is currently second in the General Classification, one minute and 13 seconds adrift of Isaac del Toro, a UAE Team Emirates teammate.

The pair are quoted on even-money and 5/2 odds, respectively. The online bookmakers offering the best cycling odds now make the luckless Roglič the third favourite (11/4) despite trailing del Toro by almost two-and-a-half minutes and Ayuso by one minute and 12 seconds.

Three riders are currently offered on 20/1 odds: Antonio Tiberi, Egan Bernal and Richard Carapaz. The trio are well equipped to deal with the six mountain stages that lay ahead. All other riders can be backed on 50/1 or greater.

Tarling on Top in Time Trial?

Stage 10 of the 2025 Giro comes after the second rest day. It is a relatively flat 28.6-kilometre Individual Time Trial, which will produce some movement in the overall standings. However, it is unlikely that the ‘big three’ will swap positions in the General Classification.

Britain’s Josh Tarling won the first of the two Time Trials in this year’s Giro. He is long odds-on to take this second race against the clock despite it being double the distance. The added kilometres mean established time trialist Mads Pedersen has been dismissed as a 40/1 shot.

Thankfully, Pedersen, our 11/10 recommendation for the Points Classification, has all but secured success in that category. The social media savvy Dane has almost treble the points of all rivals. As a result, he is now priced on 1/5 odds.
