A bleak future controlled by AI where humans are expendable and have to fight back to even exist? That might be next week at our current trajectory, but ELK has set its slot title a bit further out.
The humans as batteries trope from The Matrix makes an appearance in the bonus rounds, so that’s less than reassuring. Of course, the hacker resistance is battling out building to building in the base game.
Gameplay revolves around Avalanches, Collectors, Refactors, and a Breach, all of which sound a bit ominous as well.
More About Online Slots
Full Rules & Information About the Deadcode Online Slot
While the grid is expandable, it begins with a traditional 5×5 format. The cluster pays trigger the avalanche/cascade feature, which removes wins, can create wilds, and increases the global multiplier that ups every win.
Wilds substitute for any symbol and can be created either by a winning cluster or sometimes by the subroutines. Each column of the grid has a collector which ties into said subroutine. Collectors fill up with their matching types.
Once you have collected enough, the subroutine triggers. We have Mystery X, which, you guessed it, turns one winning symbol type into a diagonal X pattern. We have Terminate, which deletes symbol types from the board. We have Upgrade which turns all occurrences of a symbol into a higher-paying symbol.

And finally, we have Refactor, which can trigger three to five symbol spots and turn them into either Bonus, Super Bonus or Wilds. And then, Refresh, which expands the grid by one row and clears all payout symbols, though it can only do this up to seven rows total.
Then, last but certainly not least, there is Breach, which can occur at the end of a round after a non-paying sequence. All non-winning payouts are deleted and replaced with new symbols. Any winning symbols in that round then become sticky, and new wins trigger a new breach round until all winners are exhausted.
Deadcode Symbols & Payouts
If the base gameplay wasn’t confusing enough, the symbols are vaguely Asian inspired gobbledy gook, which we simply refer to by color. Blue, Aqua, and Green are the lower-paying symbols, while Purple is a bit better, and Red is even better still. The white, slightly glowing symbol pays the most.
There is also a bonus symbol which resembles a red mask, and a Super bonus symbol which is that whitish glow on a mask. The Wild is a more typical W.

Deadcode Bonuses & Features
Three Bonus symbol masks trigger the Bonus Game, which starts with 7 free drops. These play out very much like base-game spins. You still have the subroutines, global multipliers, and even the grid expansion available; the only noticeable difference is that if you get a bonus symbol, it turns into a Wild, and you get another free spin added.
If any of the three triggering bonus symbols is a Super Bonus symbol, then we kick off the Super Bonus round. Here we start with any number from 1 to 5 of the subroutines already filled, which can trigger amazing payout avalanches. Especially if we can keep landing more Bonus symbols, which give us both another wild and yet more spins.

Avalanche during Bonus Round
There is a bonus buy feature called X-iter available here. We have five possible purchases ranging from Bonus Hunt at 2.5x, which gives us a 4x better chance to kickoff a bonus game, to buying our way into the Super Bonus Round at 250x.
Similar Games & Best Alternatives
Because it is also a brand-new title, we’ve been playing quite a bit of ELK Studio’s Huff N’ Puff CollectR, which has a lot in common with Deadcode. This includes the same expanding grid, symbol transformations, and a very similar bonus and super bonus round.
If you enjoy Deadcode and are a fan of any of the many Huff N’ Puff titles, you definitely need to check this one out.
If you prefer the gritty cyberpunk feel to the actual mechanics here, then Real Play’s Bounty Hunt, or even Green Tube’s Cyber Wildz, might play more to your programming needs.
The Code Fights Back
It’s a slightly confusing title at first, but once you get used to the various subroutines and how they change the base game, we found it oddly compelling, despite its rather bleak theme and graphics.
The bonus rounds can quickly help you build and sustain momentum, and despite the rather small 5,000x top win it felt like a game where you could have a chance at breaking the winning code.
