Play’n GO has gone back to the well one more time here, with another reskin of an older game. Nothing wrong with that, but usually one would pick a slightly more popular option and add features rather than take them away.

That being said, there are some things to like here. First, unlike so many mining-type games, this one is bright and sunny and expansive.

Nothing worse than a slot triggering claustrophobia. The soundtrack is even jaunty, though the old miner looks a bit frazzled.

The core of the base game is simple. We need coins; even one might randomly trigger the bonus game.

Full Rules & Information About the Nugget N’ Nonsense Online Slot

The game is only played on a 5×3 grid, but it feels bigger than that. We’ve got a ton of ways to win at 243, paying left to right.

The Doggo Wild can substitute for any symbol, and in theory at least, we wait for the right coin to land, trigger a bonus feature and then build toward that 50,000x max payout.

Reels 5
Rows 3
Ways to Win 243
Multipliers Yes
Gamble Feature No
Free Spins Yes
Bonus Games Yes
Jackpot No
Min Bet $0.10
Max Bet $100

But on paper, it takes a lot of coins to trigger a feature like Bonus Spins, and then that feature ends up underpowered, with too little value for the wait, and it feels like it’s time to sell the old claim.

Nugget N’ Nonsense Symbols & Payouts

The lower-paying symbols are the standard card royals, Jack through Ace. The higher-paying symbols are dynamite – a lantern, a bag of gold, and the wild. Five of a kind of the gold bag or wild gets you 10x, but a winning line of three jacks only gets you 0.1x of your bet.

So while you may see lots of wins, many of these will be for less than your original bet. Sometimes far less.

The coins drive the play; it only takes one to get that random trigger, but you’ll need at least six to get the Hold and Spin round.

You’ll start with three respins and potentially add more as more coins land. Then, and only then, can you get paid out on coins on paylines, ranging from 0.5x to 10x.

Nugget N’ Nonsense Bonuses & Features

You could be awarded an instant bonus in the base game. The bonus wheel will spin, and you can win 10x, 20x, 75x or even the grand prize of 250x.

Should one of the coins trigger the Bonus Spin Round, you’ll be awarded ten free spins. Now, when a coin lands in this round, you have a chance of triggering the bonus wheel around the top of the grid. But unlike the instant round, prizes here range from 2x to 8x your bet, or from 2 to 4 respins.

The free spin round takes place at night.

Should you be awarded the Super Bonus Spins, you’ll start with only 8 free spins, but you can now hit 2 or 3 respins on the wheel, with multipliers ranging from 8x to 20x. The number of respins is capped at 20 times, however.

Similar Games & Best Alternatives

This game is essentially a knockoff of Play N’ GO’s Lawn N’ Disorder. We will take the cute doggo over the Gnome, but you may feel differently. In any case, if you enjoyed this title in the slightest, you should probably give it a go as they are remarkably similar.

If you enjoy a good mining game, however, and this one left you feeling a bit, well, played out, might we suggest Bonanza Megaways from Big Time Gaming, with its 117,649 ways to win? Or perhaps Nolimit City’s bomb throwing mining game Fire in the Hole 2, with its explosive 65,000x max win?

New Paint, Same Pickaxe

There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with Nuggets N’ Nonsense. It works exactly as intended: high volatility, a couple of layered bonuses, and a big max win number for the advertising.

Though, as with many Play N’ GO titles, we aren’t certain about how long the tunnel to that mother lode might be.

That being said, it’s a pretty forgettable title, too, especially considering the fun some other studios have had with mining titles in the past. It definitely feels as if they had worked at it just a bit longer, they’d have walked away with a much more fulfilling game.
