America’s film industry is still going strong and the latest hype coming from Hollywood is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards coming in February 2016. The Oscars as they are known around the world is one of the premier betting opportunities that arrives every year for the past 88.

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Guillermo del Toro, John Krasinski and Ang Lee announced the 88th Academy Awards nominations today January 14 2016. More than 400 international media representatives were present at the announcement.  The event will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide. Active members of the Academy are eligible to vote for the winners in all 24 categories. Chris Rock the well known comedian will host this year’s event on February 28th in Hollywood.

A film called The Big Short, directed by Adam McKay, is a nominee for Best Picture. The film also received 4 other nominations, including Actor in a Supporting Role, Directing, Film Editing, and Adapted Screenplay. Other nominees in the Best Picture category include Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room, and Spotlight.

The online gambling industry sees a flurry of bets as the initial nominations are announced. The interest in the event involves almost all of the internet gambling operators offering odds on the Oscars winners. The movie the Revenant which stars Leonard DiCaprio is favoured by some operators to win best picture and DiCaprio taking home the best actor award along with best direction by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
