Betfair Online Sports Book Did Well With Euro 2012 Mobile App

Betfair has a lot to crow about these days as the end of the Euro 2012 football tournament ends and another round of profitable returns settles into the coffers. Betfair indicated recently revenue increased 18% from core operations in the last two months.

There was massive activity during the Euro 2012 which according to the press release accounted for a third of the revenue increase during the period. Stephen Morana who is Betfair’s interim CEO revealed that it was unexpected but the Euro 2012 Tournament resulted in more bets than even the World Cup in 2010. The upsurge of interest in the Euro 2012 event had something to do with the increase in activity but Morana also explained that the convenience and popularity of the use of mobile betting resulted in more action. He pointed out that Betfair had its very own Euro 2012 mobile betting application available free for the download.

Betfair’s chief technology officer Tony McAlister was quoted on, as saying, “There is a substantial uplift per customer because they bet more with their mobile products than they do online.” McAlister continued to add, “Sitting in front of one of these Euro 2012 matches with your iPad on your lap really increases the betting that customers are doing,” There is every indication that mobile sports betting has taken off like a rocket and those sports books that offer the applications for mobile are going to profit from the trend large.

In other Betfair news, the firm has signed a deal to become the sponsor for the World Matchplay darts tournament which will commence in Blackpool this July 21st through to the 29th in the round robin format. The event will bring 16 of the world’s best dart players to compete again 16 qualifiers form the ProTour Order of Merit. The deal is worth an estimated £400,000 but no mobile application is expected to be produced for this event which is growing in popularity.
