The differences are profound when it comes to the demographics for those participating in online and land based gambling venues. Statistics released in the U.K. recently pointed out that gamblers who frequent brick and mortar casinos tend to be older than the online gambling public. This isn’t too unusual knowing that the younger generations are taking more to the use of technology when it comes to their entertainment choices and venues.

The average gambler who uses remote gambling or mobile technology is aged between 18 and 44. The average punter in the United Kingdom is male, and is most likely over the age of 45.
The UK Gambling Commission has released statistics that reveal the state of the gambling industry overall. The Commission, has concluded that there has been a very slight increase (0.07%) in remote gambling in the UK, which is attributed to more people purchasing their lottery tickets over the internet.

11.8% of the 4,000 adults polled in the UK Gambling Commission's survey from September 2010 to June 2011, said that they had participated in remote gambling in the past month. Half of these had only purchased online lottery tickets. In the year to June 2011, 9.1% of those polled said that they had bought tickets for the National Lottery draw over the internet in the past four weeks.

10.5% of all of those who responded to the survey said they took part in remote gambling via a computer, laptop or handheld device, while 3.2% gambled on their mobile phones. New technology that allows for interactive or digital TV gambling was used by 1.4% of the respondents.
Statistics on regular gambling activities at land based venues were also announced by the U.K. Gambling Commission, revealing that 56.7% of the adults polled said that they had taken part in at least one form of land wagering in the past month, an increase from the 55.5% noted in 2010 and the 55.2% in 2009.
