The 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, are to be hosted by Brazil and those involved in gaming are gearing up to attract punters to their sites. Brazilian fans of football are pleased to see that PokerStars has signed 36 year old retired soccer star Ronaldo as a representative of PokerStars. Ronaldo joins the ranks of other Brazilian professional poker players such as Maria Mayrinck, Felipe Mojave, Nacho Barbero, Alexandre Gomes and Leo Fernandez.

The superstar is considered by many to be one of the greatest football players in the world. He has won two world championships and has been named FIFA Player of the Year three times. Ronaldo holds the record for most goals scored in the World Cup at fifteen. Ronaldo, known as “the phenomenon,” will now join other sports superstars, Rafa Nadal, Boris Becker, Fatima Moreira De Melo and Marcus Hellner as a member of PokerStars Team SportStars and Andre Akkari as a member of Team Brazil. The signing to PokerStars is a good play for Ronaldo where poker has become a major pastime for Brazilians.

Poker was not on Ronalds to do list as he says he learned how to play after the signing of the deal. Brazil is one of the fastest growing jurisdictions for poker players over that past couple of years with PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour stopping in either Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo for three of the last six seasons with Brazil hosting the season four Grand Final. Casino gambling is illegal in Brazil, so live tournaments must occur in poker associations. Most poker is played online in Brazil creating for PokerStars an ideal market venue. Ronaldo will assure a following by not only fans of poker but soccer fans who know now champions are part of the game.
