City of Sound is a video slot by Play’n GO that can be played at some of the best slot sites in the US. It is played on a 5×3 grid that could represent a piece of musical equipment. There are 25 paylines, and betting ranges from £0.05 – £100.00, making it an excellent game for all types of budgets.
This is a medium volatility slot with a high RTP of 96.30%, but as you will find with similar Play’n GO slots, it can also be played with lower RTPs of 94.31%, 91.30%, 87.30%, and 84.30%. If luck is on your side, you can win up to 4,000x your bet, with an expected hit frequency of 35.97% in the base game.
The weather in the base game is gloomy, with grey clouds overhead. A casual pop-rock soundtrack adds a touch of energy to the setting. To win, players need to land at least three matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost side.
The lower-paying symbols are classic royal card symbols (J, Q, K, and A), each awarding 2x the bet for landing five in a row. Higher-paying symbols include a microphone, a tambourine, a pair of sunglasses, and a bucket hat. These < strong >pays from 8x to 20x the bet for a complete winning line.
The Wild symbol is an image of two musicians and also pays out 20x the bet when five appear on a payline. Special features include Gold Records, which can activate the Gold Re-Spins bonus, and Scatter symbols – a guitar painted with the British flag- unlocking the Free Spins round.
Gold Re-Spins
Landing 6 Gold Record symbols activates 3 Gold Re-Spins, during which only Gold Records or Gold Record Cases can appear. Each time a new Gold Record lands, the spin count resets to 3.
All Gold Records stick in place until the bonus round ends. When it ends, the total value of all visible Gold Records is awarded. Each Gold Record carries a random prize ranging from 1x to 1,000x the bet. If the entire grid is filled with Gold Records, players also receive a special 1,000x Golden Prize in addition to the individual symbol values.
Gold Record Cases
When a Gold Record Case lands, it awards the combined value of all Gold Records currently on the reels. Gold Record Cases are not sticky during the Gold Re-Spins feature, but they do reset the respin count back to 3. Gold Records can be collected multiple times in a round, increasing the potential for bigger wins.
Mega Free Spins
Landing 3 Scatter symbols on reels 1, 3, and 5 activates 5 Mega Free Spins. At the start of each spin, a 3×3 Mega Symbol appears and moves to a random position on the grid.
This symbol can transform into a Gold Coin, triggering the Gold Re-Spins feature by splitting into 9 individual Gold Coins. It can also become a Mega Scatter, retriggering the bonus with 5 additional spins, up to a maximum of 45 free spins.

City of Sound Mega Free Spins feature activated.
Gold Record Stack
When Gold Records land without triggering the Gold Re-Spins, and no Gold Record Case is present, they are collected into the Gold Record Stack located above the grid. Each time this happens, there’s a chance the stack will award a Win Prize.
Prizes can reach up to 100x the bet, though the likelihood of triggering the Gold Record Stack bonus remains the same, regardless of how many Gold Records have been collected.
My Final Thoughts
City of Sound was really appealing to me. I loved the musical theme and the different features, which kept things exciting. The Gold Re-Spins hit more often than I expected, and the Mega Symbols added a fun twist. It’s one of those slots I’ll come back to when I want something familiar but still full of surprises.
