Rapidly growing Dutch online gambling market

The Dutch market has been growing rapidly since the regulated market opened on October 1st, 2021. People in the Netherlands are now able to place online sports bets and play casino games over the Internet on desktop and mobile devices.

In 2021 the market opened with ten operators. Initially, the brands cleared to launch last year included bet365 and UK-based bingo operator Tombola, Malta- and Estonia-licensed Play North Ltd. Dutch land-based operator Holland Casino NV and state lottery Nederlandse Loterij with its TOTO Online betting brand were cleared to operate. FPO Nederlands owned by Janshen Hahnraths Group was also in the initial group of licensees as were Italy-based Betent and Belgian Bingoal. NSUS Malta which runs the GGPoker.eu brand and LiveScore Malta, the sports media and betting business, also secured licenses.

The launch had been delayed several times as Dutch lawmakers delayed the process of enactment of the Remote Gambling Act. It had been originally scheduled to enter into law on 1st July 2020 with the market to open six months later. However, after further delay, the regulated market finally opened last year. Since then, more operators have been applying for licenses. Before Several operators have blocked access to their services for Dutch players and have applied for official licenses. Anyone whose products were available prior to regulation has had to cease Dutch operations for two years before being permitted to re-enter.

In January 2022 Btobet, who specializes in high quality live casino games, was granted an official license by the Dutch Gambling Association, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA). Wazdan is the latest operator to obtain a license.

What Wazdan Games Can Dutch players expect to see?

Players in the Netherlands will be able to experience Wazdan’s favorites such as Larry the Leprechaun, Sizzling 777 Deluxe, and 9 Lions. The certification brings to the Dutch market the very popular Hold the Jackpot series. Titles in this series feature Wazdan hits like Sizzling Moon, Sun of Fortune, Power of Gods: Hades, and Fortune Wheels.

Wazdan games have several unique features which will now be available to players in Netherlands. These include: –

Ultra Fast Mode allows the player to speed up gameplay

Big Screen Mode

In Big Screen Mode players have two zoom modes to choose from allowing them to enlarge the reels view to fill the entire screen

The Buy Feature eliminates the need for players to wait for their bonuses to be activated during gameplay. Instead, it allows players to select the feature at any point during their game.

Players can activate the Unique Gamble Features after every winning spin to start a bonus game. This gives them a 50/50 chance to instantly double their win and they can do this as many as seven times in a row.

The life of the device a player is using can be extended by around forty percent if they use Energy Saving Mode which makes it perfect for mobile players who are not close to a power source.

Double Screen Mode

Double Screen Mode allows the player to open the paytable and gave it on display during the gameplay.

Wazdan variable volatility

All Wazdan’s online slots have a one-of-a-kind feature that is trademarked. All their games have a volatility feature that allows players to modify the size of their potential win and the frequency it is available. The high volatility option increases the size of the win, but the wins do not occur as often. The low volatility option means more frequent but lower value wins.

There is also a Standard mode that offers the most balanced gaming experience where both frequency and pot size are locked in. Wazdan says that this gives its operator partners a good degree of control over player retention as multiple gameplay options are being offered within a single game. Players customize gameplay to their choice, and this means the same game can appeal to a much wider player base.

Tough Regulation

Operators who are caught offering gaming services without a license will see Dutch Regulator, KSA, take disciplinary action against them. The KSA fined one operator €531,250 last year when it had made gambling services available in the Netherlands even though it had not specifically targeted Dutch customers.

GGR figures revised

The KSA has said that gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the Netherlands’ online operators was substantially higher than initially estimated. The size of the online market for 2021 has been revised from a GGR of €580 million to €814 million.

Wazdan’s latest Netherland certification is another regulated market debut for the company. As well as the aforementioned Belarus and Greece markets, on November 21st they debuted in the West Virginia market after receiving its Lottery i-Gaming Interim Supplier Licence there.
