Butler Began Her Career in Auditing and Regulation All the Way Back in 1987

The well-respected regulatory affairs and technology business Odds-On Compliance has stepped out and revealed two new executive hires: Marybeth Butler will join the company as director of revenue audit, while Ali Ghanavati will hop on board as director of technical compliance.

Butler arrives at the company after her retirement from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE). Back in 2018, she served an important role in building the state of New Jersey’s sports betting regulatory framework.

Butler has been in this industry for a long time, beginning her career with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission as an auditor all the way back in 1987. And by 1995, she was already leading the revenue certification team. She played a key role in developing auditing strategies in time for the introduction of online gaming back in 2013.

Ghanavati Also Spent Time at New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE)

Meanwhile, Ali Ghanavati himself also boasts major auditing and regulatory industry experience, most recently acting as head of regulatory technology at Fubo Gaming. While serving in this position, Ghanavati managed the company’s jurisdictional product compliance strategy and assisted with the businesses launch in several states, featuring the likes of Iowa, Arizona and New Jersey.

Before hopping on board at Fubo, Ghanavati served 24 years at the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, much like Marybeth Butler, rising all the way up to chief engineer, before assuming the role of deputy chief of its Technical Services Bureau in 2005. Ghanavati then proceeded to leave and join the private sector in 2008, starting out as an independent consultant before eventually settling down at Gaming Laboratories International in 2010.

Speaking on the occasion of both hires’ announcements, CEO and co-founder of Odds-On Compliance, Eric Frank, chose to highlight both Butler’s and Ghanavati’s long experience in the industry as strong assets for the company moving forward:

“We are thrilled to welcome Marybeth and Ali to the Odds On team. Each brings extensive and invaluable industry experience to strengthen our compliance team.”Eric Frank, CEO and Co-Founder, Odds-On Compliance, Press Release

Scientific Games Recently Hired Ex-Trump Executive

In terms of other recent executive-level hires, Scientific Games announced just recently in December 2022 that it had hired James Schultz as its new executive vice president of public policy and government affairs.

Schultz worked most recently at multinational law firm Holland & Knight, where spent two years working as a partner, chair of the northeast government advocacy team, as well as co-chair of the state attorneys general practice.

However, perhaps most interesting in Schultz’s recent professional experience was the time he spent, 11 months to be exact, serving as senior associate counsel and special assistant to the President of the United States, which at the time was Donald Trump.

To mark Schultz’s hiring at Scientific Games, the operator’s chief executive Pat McHugh stressed the growing prominence of the global lottery scene, while also asserting that Schultz will play a key role in supporting the provider’s operations moving forward:

“The global lottery industry is exciting and it’s rapidly evolving; with his significant policy and legislative experience coupled with a deep understanding of the dynamics businesses face in highly regulated industries, Jim will play a critical role in advancing Scientific Games’ mission to create secure, sustainable solutions that empower our lottery partners worldwide to maximize good cause funding. He will support our customers and associations in advocating for the lottery industry’s responsible approach to generating billions of dollars annually for lottery beneficiaries.”Pat McHugh, Chief Executive, Scientific Games, Press Release

Great Canadian Picked Out New CEO in November 2022

Looking further north now, popular Canada-based retail gaming and entertainment operator Great Canadian Entertainment announced in November 2022 that it had selected Matthew Anfinson as its new chief executive. The previous CEO, Anthony Rodio, had already announced his retirement.

Anfinson landed at Great Canadian after seven years spent at Caesars Entertainment, where he first started off as vice president and executive associate to the chief marketing officer, before moving up to becoming the senior vice president of operations.

Anfinson celebrated his hiring by driving home the point that Great Canadian will continue to improve the customer experience in the near future:

“We are incredibly excited to bring to market what will be among the premier casino resorts in North America in 2023 with the projects currently underway at Pickering Casino Resort and Casino Woodbine, as well as new innovative programs and initiatives that will drive growth at our other properties and in local communities across the country.
