MMA Fighter Amanda Serrano Announced as Responsible Gambling Ambassador

The major US-based sportsbook operator FanDuel Group, owned by Flutter Entertainment, has revealed a selection of new responsible gambling initiatives designed to coincide with the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Responsible Gaming Education Month.

The news came as part of the company’s first business-wide ‘Play Well Day’, during which workers were invited to an employee-only event intended to celebrate the role of staff who have helped foster a safer gambling culture at the company.

During the very same event, FanDuel also revealed that professional boxer, mixed martial artist and wrestler Amanda Serrano will take on the role of a responsible gaming ambassador for the operator. Already sponsored by FanDuel, Serrano is expected to film a series of responsible gambling public service announcements in English and Spanish to serve the company’s wide customer base.

Speaking on the occasion, Serrano expressed that she was glad FanDuel is taking the issue of responsible gaming so seriously – seeing as it is an issue that falls close to her heart:

“I appreciate how serious the team at FanDuel takes this issue, as it’s one of personal importance to me. Being able to use my platform to advocate to sports fans a play well lifestyle is something I’m proud to be a part of.”Amanda Serrano, Responsible Gaming Ambassador, FanDuel Group, Press Release

FanDuel’s First Responsible Gambling Ambassador Agrees to Extend Role

In even more encouraging responsible gaming news coming from FanDuel, the operator also announced that its very first responsible gambling ambassador, Craig Carton, has agreed to sign on to a new multi-year extension, thereby continuing his role with the operator.

Carton might be most well-known for hosting a selection of popular radio shows in the New York City region. As part of his ambassador duties at FanDuel, he will participate in the ‘FanDuel/Craig Carton College Tour’ joint initiative, meant to promote safer play at college campuses.

In a shared statement, Carton highlighted the work he and FanDuel had already accomplished together, as well as the importance of his advocacy work amongst young adults moving forward:

“Our first year together focused on training and identifying ways to better protect customers through advocacy. Moving forward, speaking to young adults about my story and how they can learn from it is something I’m incredibly passionate about. I can’t wait to kick off our campus tour later this month.”Craig Corton, Responsible Gaming Ambassador, FanDuel Group, Press Release

FanDuel went on to clarify how MMA star Amanda Serrano and Craig Carton will play active consulting roles with FanDuel’s responsible gambling operations and customer service teams. They will also work with the operator to produce content aimed at encouraging customers to play within a budget and not chase losses. Finally, they will emphasize FanDuel’s other series of responsible gaming measures, such as wager, deposit, and time limit technologies.

Wrapping up all of FanDuel’s impressive new measures aimed at furthering the cause of safer gambling, responsible gaming vice president Adam Warrington explained how fate aligned so that both Carton and Serrano could act as responsible gaming ambassadors, asserting that the operator is proud to be furthering its commitments in this realm:

“The opportunity to continue our partnership with Craig while also welcoming Amanda to our responsible gaming ambassador team will allow FanDuel to connect with more consumers about our beliefs around how to play well. We’re proud to further our commitment to developing programs, partnerships, and tools that aim to make a tangible difference in responsible gaming.”

Churchill Downs and FanDuel Joined Forces in September 2022

In other recent FanDuel news, horse-racing and casino supplier Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) announced earlier this month in September 2022 that it would be stepping into a content and sponsorship agreement with FanDuel.

The deal comes in the form of a multi-year agreement between the two and covers several different facets of FanDuel’s empire, such as its sports wagering, advance deposits wagering (ADW) and television verticals. Most important, however, is that FanDuel fans located in the US will now gain the ability to place bets on horse racing content at any Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) location.

FanDuel CEO Amy Howe warmly welcomed news of the partnership, explaining that she sees promise in integrating CDI’s offering, while simultaneously hoping the agreement will win FanDuel new fans:

“With the launch of FanDuel TV last week and the upcoming integration of premier racing content into our market-leading sports book, we believe this is an inflection point in our ability to offer our customers a seamless wagering experience with a single wallet. We are especially pleased that we will be able to offer wagering on the most exciting two minutes in sports, the Kentucky Derby, and that we will have exclusive broadcast rights to the Churchill Downs Incorporated family of tracks on FanDuel TV. We look forward to creating new audiences for horse racing.”

Entain Received Safer Gambling Award in May 2022

Back in May 2022, global betting and gaming group Entain was awarded the Advanced Safer Gambling Standard award across the pond in the United Kingdom, celebrating the company’s high player protection standards.

For those as of yet unfamiliar with the accolade: the Safer Gambling Standard is an independent quality standard meant to assess the effectiveness of measures that businesses implement in order to protect customers from the perils of unregulated gambling. Entain is the largest operator to date to receive the award – receiving an Advanced Level 3 award for its online gaming measures, and the Advanced Level 2 award for its land-based operations.

Chief Governance Officer at Entain, Robert Hoskin, was naturally very pleased with the award:

“We are proud to be recognized by GamCare and its Safer Gambling Standard in this critically important area of responsible betting and gaming, and in particular with their highest accreditation. Sustainability, and with that – responsibility, is at the heart of our strategy and is fundamental to the way we do business.”
