State Lawmakers Approved Construction of Three Casinos in Downstate NY Region in April 2022

The state of New York’s main government body tasked with regulating all gambling in the Empire State, The New York State Gaming Commission, has revealed that it has unanimously approved the appointment of Quenia Abreu, Vicki Been and Stuart Rabinowitz to the New York Gaming Facility Location Board.

The recently created New York Gaming Facility Location Board’s chief responsibilities will mainly include reviewing and evaluating all relevant commercial casino applications in the US state, as well as recommending up to three potential new facilities for licensure.

Back in April 2022, New York state lawmakers got the ball rolling by approving plans to allow for the construction and launch of three casinos in the downstate region, which includes the state’s most populous city – New York City. The New York Gaming Facility Location Board will now move on to issuing a request for applications for any interested casino applicants by January 6th, 2023. The first licenses are not expected to be granted until late next year in 2023 at the very earliest.

New York State Gaming Commission chairman Brian O’Dwyer thanked each appointed individual to the board’s dedication to the project, claiming that the process of approving and developing new casinos can bring many benefits to the local community:

“I sincerely appreciate these individuals’ desire to accept this task, which is truly a public service. This competitive process and the resulting projects can lead to real transformation of communities through capital, investment, direct and construction employment, and tax revenues.”Brian O’Dwyer, Chairman, New York State Gaming Commission, Press Release

Board Members Boast Extensive Experience and Law Pedigree

Finally, last not least, Stuart Rabinowitz also hails from the world of law, acting as senior counsel to law firm Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone. The practice focuses specifically on state and federal litigation, appellate litigation, constitutional law, civil rights law, voting rights law, and education law, which includes both higher education and labor relations. Furthermore, the firm also liaises with local, state and federal agencies and officers relating to economic development.
