Predicting More Shocks in Sunday’s Strictly Come Dancing

There was a big shock on Strictly Come Dancing at the weekend as Richie Anderson was eliminated from the BBC’s flagship entertainment show. Part of a same-sex dance partnership coupled with last year’s winning professional Giovanni Pernice, Anderson was 12/1 to go home on Sunday.

In a bizarre ‘movie night’ themed weekend, Anderson found himself in a dance-off with Fleur East. East, the 2014 X-Factor runner-up, had been quoted at 66/1 to go home on Sunday. The joint favorites to be eliminated had been Matt Goss and James Bye. With judges’ scores of 21 and 22, both scored considerably less than Anderson (27 points) and East (29 points). Nevertheless, both were saved without a sweat.

Taylor Could Go Home Next, No Joke

This anomaly underlines how shows of this nature are fraught with danger. Many would suggest Tony Adams should have already been dispatched. The former England international footballer has finished bottom of the scorecards following all three dances. He earned just 18 points for Saturday’s performance.

Yet the 56-year-old is 9/2 to be axed this coming weekend. Voters seemingly embrace novelty, comedy, and cringe-worthy performers. Consequently, he could survive for a few more weeks despite showing the dancing prowess of a baby elephant!

Goss and Bye are once again market principles in the ‘next elimination’ market. However, Ellie Taylor could be better value to go next. The best online betting sites quote the stand-up comedian and presenter at 10/1 in the next elimination market.

12/1 to win the competition when the betting opened, the 38-year-old Essex girl is now 100/1 in the outright betting. It is not difficult to understand the price shift. 23 judges’ points earned from her second dance placed her one spot off the foot of the table. Last weekend she scored 21 points. It put her one spot above the bottom-placed Tony Adams and level with Matt Goss.

The Betting Is Tight at the Top

Enjoying contrasting fortunes is Tyler West. The DJ had a miserable opening week registering just 22 points for an American Smooth dance. But a week two jive earned a far better score and put him towards the top of the charts. At the weekend, he surpassed that performance with a Charleston that earned two 10s and two 9s.

The 38-point score was the best of the night by far. Bookmakers and punters were impressed. His 9/1 odds available on Saturday morning were quickly cut into 3/1. This latest move means three celebrities are now contesting favoritism.

The BetVictor sportsbook offers the best industry price on the marginal favorite, Will Mellor. He is 3/1. The same firm is quoting West at odds of 7/2. Once again, this is the best price available amongst the leading novelty betting firms. William Hill is alone in pricing Helen Skelton at 4/1.

All other contestants can be backed at 10/1 or more. One of the biggest drifters amongst these celebrities is Kym Marsh. As low as 4/1 at one point, the former singer and Coronation Street actress is now generally available at 25/1.
