May Was Previously Executive Director of Minnesota Racing Commission

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), which is a renowned global testing and certification services provider, has once again added to its Client Solutions and Client Services teams with two new executive-level hires: Steve May as Client Solutions Executive and Samuel Grunther as Account Executive.

May holds an impressive resume with plenty of experience in the horse racing industry, specifically in pari-mutuel, racing, and compliance. Prior to arriving at Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), he served as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Racing Commission.

Steve May has also worked as the Director of Pari-Mutuel Wagering and Compliance for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, as well as the Vice President/Business Manager for the Association of Racing Commissioners International. May also holds the necessary accreditation needed in order to officiate thoroughbred, quarter horse, and harness races all across North America.

Commenting on Steve May’s hire, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel at GLI, Kevin Mullally, praised May’s extensive experience and technical know-how:

“Steve May has been a successful problem-solver throughout his career, and we are fortunate to have him join the GLI team. He is known for playing an essential role in developing a regulatory framework for historical horse racing. However, his technical acumen and knowledge of developing and implementing compliance programs will greatly benefit a wide array of our clients. He has earned the trust of both regulators and the industry, and we are grateful to have him on the team.”Kevin Mullally, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel, Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), Press Release

Grunther’s Previous Roles Include Stints at Conduet, FanDuel, and Madison Square Garden

For his part, Sam Grunther holds a more general experience in the iGaming and sports industries, leading to this new role at Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) in providing continued commercial and client support to both suppliers and operators in the industry.

Grunther’s previous stints included time spent at Conduet, where he worked as Client Relations and Conversations Specialist; at FanDuel as a Customer Operations Agent; as the Guest Relations Operator at Madison Square Garden; and as a Ticket Operations Associate for the famed MLB team the New York Yankees.

Vice President of Client Services at Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), Salim L. Adatia, believes Grunther’s impressive resume will help him acclimate to his new role in no time:

“Sam’s strong knowledge and understanding of the sports media landscape, coupled with his experience collaborating cross-departmentally within companies spanning iGaming and sports betting, will allow him to hit the ground running and immediately contribute to satisfying the needs of our quickly growing list of valued clientele, thereby illuminating their path for their success and growth.”Salim L. FanDuel Hired New Chief Technical Officer in June 2022

Speaking of FanDuel, the constantly growing and popular sports betting platform appointed Andrew Sheh as its latest Chief Technology Officer earlier this month in June 2022. Sheh will lead its customer-facing engineering and platform development teams, as well as, of course, the platform’s entire IT architecture.

Much like May and Grunther at Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), Sheh brings with him extensive experience, over 20 years to be exact, of executing technology strategies, leading large-scale organizations, and developing globally scalable platforms.

Directly before arriving at FanDuel, Sheh worked at real estate platform Compass. Here he managed an engineering team of over 500 engineers spread across the globe, responsible for all data, search, AI/ML, video, digital ads, marketing tech, payments, and externalization processes.

Commenting on his new role as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at FanDuel, Sheh stressed the growing importance of mobile gaming in the overall tech industry:

“There is no faster growing and more competitive space in tech than mobile gaming. It is a sector that requires the most innovative solutions to differentiate FanDuel from the competition and I am excited to build FanDuel into the leading gaming platform in the world.”

Mohegan Gaming Took On Former Caesars Executive in December 2021

Back in December 2021, casino operator Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE) revealed the appointment of Haven Pope as its latest Chief Accounting Officer. Pope will encourage the company’s future growth and development by using its financial reporting and analysis systems, along with its global subsidiaries.

Pope now reports directly to Mohegan’s Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Carol Anderson. Along with helping the operator grow, Pope will be in charge of the financial reporting, technical accounting, and corporate accounting teams and will be closely in touch with the property’s finance teams, the audit committee and external auditors.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, Ray Pineault, seemed confident Pope’s hire would be a strong asset to Mohegan’s overall operations:

“The Chief Accounting Officer is critical to Mohegan’s success as a global, tribal entity, and we have the utmost confidence that Haven will exceed expectations in this role. With his impressive experience and strong background in corporate finance, we are confident his leadership and technical accounting skills will further enable us to strengthen our position as a leading integrated entertainment resort brand.”
