Madigan Served as Former General Manager of Paragon Casino

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), known best for operating integrated casino resorts worldwide, has appointed Jody Madigan as its new chief operating officer (COO). The plan is for Madigan to steer both the conception and execution of short and long-term business strategies for all of MEG’s brands and properties.

Mohegan’s new COO will report to the company’s president and chief executive, Ray Pineault, while also directing all general managers in efforts to ensure all strategic planning is in accordance with the operator’s executive leadership group and the Mohegan Tribe.

Prior to Mohegan, Madigan served as the general manager of the Paragon Casino and Resort in Marksville, Louisiana. This role saw him spearhead the launch of the state’s first retail sportsbook, along with a significant remodeling of the casino’s on-site hotel.

On top of his time at Paragon Casino, Jody Madigan also acted as the vice president of strategic execution and business development at Seneca Gaming, a casino built and run by the Seneca Nation in Niagara Falls, New York.

Finally, Mohegan’s latest COO also spent two years as assistant general manager for Mountaineer Casino, as well as one year as president and general manager for Silver Entertainment’s Casino Miami.

Madigan Boasts Over 20 Years’ Worth of Experience

Ray Pineault, the long-time executive and recently appointed president and CEO of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), praised Jody Madigan’s 20 plus years’ worth of experience after the news of his appointment as the operator’s latest chief operating officer (COO) broke:

“We are pleased to welcome Jody to our executive leadership team to ensure business strategy alignment and continuity across all of our properties. With more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality and casino gaming industry, Jody’s leadership and expertise will contribute to MGE’s continued growth and success.”Ray Pineault, President and CEO, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE)

Madigan’s appointment as Mohegan’s new COO arrives at a fortuitous time for the organization. Last month, in August 2021, the casino and resort operator reported a staggering revenue increase of 206.1% during the third quarter of 2021 when compared to the same period last year.

Mohegan Recently Won Deal with FanDuel in Connecticut

It’s been an active year for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), which is the Mohegan Tribe’s gaming branch. In July 2021, it announced a brand-new partnership together with iGaming giant FanDuel in the state of Connecticut.

The exclusive market access deal will enable FanDuel to provide both retail and online sports betting, along with online casino offerings, in the Mohegan Tribe’s home state of Connecticut.

FanDuel president Amy Howe understandably expressed eager excitement over its recently gained access to the Connecticut betting market, believing that the state will swiftly become a “key market” for the operator giant:

“Mohegan Sun is an iconic casino and entertainment destination in the Northeast, and we are excited to announce our first tribal gaming partnership with one of the leading tribal operators in the United States. We have some incredible plans for the retail space at Mohegan Sun, with the potential to be the largest FanDuel sportsbook in the United States. When we combine the retail sports betting experience with the opportunity for online sports betting and iGaming, Connecticut is going to be a key state for us as we look towards the start of football season.”Amy Howe, President, FanDuel

South Korean Casino Still in the Works for Mohegan

Despite the odds seemingly being stacked against it due to the ongoing Covid-19 global pandemic, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment has plans next year to launch a world-class integrated resort complex in the city of Incheon, South Korea — a short distance away from the nation’s capital of Seoul.

Truth be told, the multi-billion-dollar construction project has been severely disrupted since its initial announcement, stemming from problems such as regulatory issues to severe delays in construction progress as inflicted by the pandemic.

The global lockdown’s effect on the casino industry at large was also a key factor in delaying the development and opening of Mohegan’s South Korean mega-complex. Government mandated restrictions on land-based casinos in April 2020 affected several key markets across Asia: Macau, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines.
