Campaign Content Will Come in the Form of In-Venue, Broadcast and Digital Activations

Safety first: the basketball brand recognizable all over the world, National Basketball Association (NBA), has revealed that it will become the latest major sports organization to put its support behind the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) “Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly” public service awareness campaign.

As a result of the new deal, the NBA will collaborate closely together with the AGA with the goal of educating basketball fans about responsible sports betting. This will be achieved by providing turnkey resources for use by the league’s 30 teams, but also by promoting marketing content for the initiative through a diverse range of in-venue, broadcast, digital and social media campaigns.

As of writing, the NBA already boasts a series of its own responsible gambling programs, featuring the likes of public service announcements broadcast during its games, limitations on sports betting adverts, holding membership with the National Council on Problem Gambling, and an ‘opt-in’ focus that provides platforms for fans to willingly engage with sports betting should they feel the need to do so.

”Have A Game Plan” Campaign Focuses on Four Principal Values of Safer Gambling

Speaking on the topic of the NBA joining the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) “Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly” campaign was NBA senior vice president and head of gaming and new business ventures, Scott Kaufman-Ross, who stressed how central safer gambling is to the league’s core values:

“Responsible gaming is an integral component of the NBA’s approach to legal sports betting. Working with the AGA on this initiative is an important part of our multifaceted approach to this critical topic and will provide our teams with tools to make a true impact on responsible gaming education in NBA markets across the US and Canada.”Scott Kaufman-Ross, senior vice president and head of gaming and new business ventures, National Basketball Association (NBA), Press Release

Beginning originally in 2019, the Have A Game Plan campaign is centered around four principles of responsible gaming: establishing a budget and adhering to it; keeping gaming social; knowing the odds; and playing only through legal, licensed operators.

In addition to the NBA, there are many other prominent sporting organizations that have thrown their weight behind the AGA’s campaign, including but not limited to Major League Baseball (MLB), golf’s PGA Tour, Nascar and NBA franchise the New York Knicks. The AGA has also won the approval of major gaming operators such as DraftKings, Entain, FanDuel, BetMGM, Rush Street Interactive and Penn Entertainment.

For its part, senior vice president of the American Gaming Association (AGA), Casey Clark, sees promise in the new reach the campaign will enjoy thanks to the NBA’s support:

“As one of the world’s most popular leagues, the NBA will bring Have A Game Plan’s important message to a massive audience. It’s critical that the entire sports betting ecosystem is united in our commitment to responsible gaming, and we are grateful for the NBA’s leadership in these efforts.”Casey Clark, Senior Vice President, American Gaming Association (AGA), Press Release

AGA Appointed Maureen Beddis to Executive Board in October 2022

In other news related to the American Gaming Association (AGA), the gambling awareness organization revealed in October 2022 that it would be appointing Maureen Beddis as senior vice president of membership and events.

Beddis took on the role starting on October 31st, 2022, and thereby became responsible for leading the organization’s member relations, business development, and events. Prior to the AGA, she spent 16 years with the Vision Council, where she held the position of executive vice president of membership and strategic initiatives.

President and chief executive of the American Gaming Association (AGA), Bill Miller, praised Beddis’ extensive experience and knack for working on the executive level:

“We’re delighted to welcome Maureen to the AGA at this critical time for our association and industry. Maureen’s career is defined by her ability to drive strategy, convene members and deliver results. Her significant experience as an association executive will bolster our already strong team and help lead our organization into the future.”

Parx Casino and Bet Parx Hopped On Board AGA’s Campaign Back in April 2022

Other casino and gaming operators who have chosen to support the AGA’s “Have A Game Plan” campaign also include the parent company of Parx Casino and BetParx, Greenwood Racing, which in April 2022 revealed a new collaboration with the organization.

The Parx brand now promotes responsible gaming consumer education on its sportsbooks. This is largely achieved through the BetParx app and on the operator’s digital channels. AGA vice president Casey Clark cited the increased legalization of sports betting in the US as a reason why its efforts are more necessary than ever:

“The AGA is thrilled to welcome Parx Casino and BetParx as Have A Game Plan campaign partners. The expansion of legal sports betting options—to 130 million Americans today—reinforces the importance of bringing together as many voices as possible to educate consumers on responsible wagering.”
