Scientific Games Brings Platform to Colombia
Gaming providers Scientific Games is forging new ground in Latin American by bringing a new platform to Colombian gamers in a new deal with Swedish operator Betsson. Its OpenGaming platform is the latest of its many online products, which includes access to many Scientific Games original titles as well as its portfolio of licensed third-party designer games.

Colbet, Betsson and Scientific Games
Part of the deal revolves around ColBet, a Latin American-facing online casino and sportsbook which Betsson now owns 70% of. The platform boasts access to “the best sporting events to bet on the continent” as well as a huge number of different casino games for its players.
Scientific Games’ new development, OpenGaming, will be available to all ColBet customers. For now, that means ColBet fans can enjoy titles by Scientific Games like 88 Fortunes, Epic Fortunes, Cash Burst, Penny Pier and more. Furthermore, Scientific Games has its own deals with third-party providers including Big Time Gaming, Lightning Box and ReelPlay. Customers will have access to their licensed games as well.
Another exciting part of the deal is the possibility that Scientific Games and Betsson will collaborate on a set of unique games just for the OpenGaming platform in the future.
The senior vice president gaming digital at Scientific Games, Dylan Slaney shared his positive view of the partnership, highlighting the potential for Betsson in Latin America:
“Betsson Group has big plans across both Colombia and the LatAm region and we are sure that our offering will appeal to its players across a wide demographic. This partnership represents the first step for OpenGaming in a vibrant market. Our sights are firmly set on building sustainable success across LatAm, one of the most important growth areas in the world for the igaming industry.”
What makes OpenGaming unique?
OpenGaming offers users not only access to all of the providers already mentioned, but also premium content only available within the OpenGaming platform. Furthermore, Betsson has developed its own unique tools geared towards the promotion of responsible gaming. These will hopefully also add a unique selling point to OpenGaming’s offering, and make the gaming experience more enjoyable for fans overall.
Betsson Group director of gaming Ciara Nic Liam explained more in a recent press release:
“It is important for us to offer a premium experience to players in Colombia and by launching with one of the industry’s pre-eminent content aggregation platforms, we are able to do exactly that. With the addition of Scientific Games’ in-house content and titles produced by leading studios in the initial roll-out phase, we can continue to present our customers with an ever-growing content catalog with widespread appeal.”
Strong hopes for Latin American development
This deal comes shortly after Betsson’s acquisition of Peru’s Inkabet, a B2C online casino and sportsbook with a sizable fanbase across the region. In general, Betsson has done quite well within Latin America in the last year, pinpointing it as a top area of growth in its most recent profit report.
The sports betting vertical was one of the highest growth areas within LatAm for the Swedish company. It makes sense therefore that Betsson and its subsidiaries would be interested in strengthening relationships with other online sportsbook operators throughout the region, and develop additional offerings for users of those platforms, like ColBet.
Betsson was one of many countries to shift their focus from the previously popular Argentina and Brazil to Colombia in the last year, with its 70% acquisition of ColBet. That is likely because Colombia has had a regulated iGaming industry for several years and can offer legal licenses to companies more easily.
