Delaware Moves Forward on Online Gambling Vendor

Fourteen firms replied to Delaware Lottery’s Request for Proposals to offer services for legal online gambling in the state. The primary vendor position is the most important spot because the primary vendor will influence the needs of the other applicant providing back up and other functions.

The short list was brought down to International Game Technology, Amaya Gaming in a strategic alliance with Bally Technologies, and the arrangement between Scientific Games, 888 Holdings and WMS Gaming. Scientific Games, is already the provider of the operational aspects of the Delaware Lottery.

Other vendor applicants include Stan James, SHFL Entertainment, and PokerStars. News reported that 888 Holdings and their 888 Poker brand have a partnership agreement with Scientific Games so it is an obvious choice the Delaware regulatory officials have made.

The Delaware Lottery has chosen a joint bid by 888 Holdings, Scientific Games and Williams Interactive as the primary vendor in its online gambling platform.

888 will supply the venture’s poker venue, while Williams Interactive will most likely provide content for the full menu of Internet casino games. New Jersey is also going to offer casino games but Delaware is off to a fast start after it has chosen its primary vendor. The end of September is the proposed launch date for Delaware’s online gambling which the primary vendor will aim for. There are many other factors that complicate the launch with security, age verification and all the other financial arrangements that must be created.

In June of 2012 the Governor Jack Markell signed the Gaming Competitiveness Act into law starting the process to create an online gambling industry in the state of Delaware. The consortium will be contracted for an initial five year period with all the functions being provided by the 888 Scientific Games and Williams Interactive group. This is a one stop shop with all the major functions covered by an experienced group. Delaware is a small state with less than one million inhabitants so the idea of an alliance with Nevada or New Jersey may be a necessity for liquidity.
